My wife finally had her brand new BMW delivered. Despite my best advice, and every single persuasive chat or convincing talk I could muster, she got it in white. I tried to dissuade her. Told her that although they do look great, cars in white are almost impossible to keep clean and tend to age a hell of a lot more than other colors. But she was insistent, and knew what she wanted.
We already look after our cars. Never take them through automatic car washes, get them valeted every so often and I make sure to wash mine and hers by hand every week or two, a process which I have to admit, I’ve grown to love. Nothing beats the feeling of looking out of the window on a spring day at a freshly cleaned car sitting gleaming in front of my garage.
So I decided to do some research, and find the best way to keep her car as white and new looking as possible for as long as possible.
Pretty recently, a friend of mine told me about nano care products for cars. Apparently they’re the biggest new step forward in car care, and compared to the old style of waxes the effect you get, both in looks and the protective effect it has on your car’s paintwork, the difference is massive.
See, unlike a traditional wax, nano waxes and polishes don’t just sit on the surface of the paint. Instead, they bond with the paintwork itself, hardening over the top of it to create a protective transparent shell. This ceramic nanoparticle shell keeps the paintwork underneath untouched by anything that could touch it, so dirt, grease, oil and water just slide off.
As well as that, a nano car polishing product like this actually protects your car. Because they’ve created another surface over the paintwork of your car, anything that would usually get to it and cause damage, can’t. Pretty much every nano polish is water repellent, so rainwater and spray will literally just fall off of your car. Most products are also anti-oil, anti-salt and anti-corrosive, too. This is important, because all of the crap they throw onto the roads today to keep them safe really do a number on wheels, especially alloys.
Plus, nano polishes like this enhance the look of your paintwork, both by providing a clean, reflective shell over the existing paint and by containing paint enhancing compounds that cause your paintwork to react better with the light, leaving colors looking deeper and more vibrant.
So when we got our first batch through the post, it was actually pretty exciting. My missus even slapped on the gloves and got outside with me to get involved! Seeing as she already had one, the first product we tried was this Matte Wax from BMW themselves. It’s specifically designed for BMW matte paint, and it’s surprisingly easy to apply.
See, I’d been told that a nano car polishing product like this is much harder to use than standard waxes and polishes. This is kind of true, but not really. Whilst it’s true that you’ve got to prepare your car more thoroughly before you start applying the polish, the fact that once you’ve applied it, it lasts for months at a time, and makes cleaning your car as simple as wiping it over with a damp cloth once it’s applied, means it all balances out.
It takes maybe a couple of hours to prepare and apply a nano polish like this. First you have to make sure your car is absolutely clean, which you can do with any standard cleaning product, or specific products designed just for this. Then you apply the nano polish, leave it a few minutes, then buff it down and leave it to set for a few hours. Once that’s done, you’re all set and safe for six months to a year.
By the time we were done, my wife was ecstatic. It was already obvious how much better her new car looked. The nano polish had brought the paint up to a beautiful lustre, and even under the failing sunlight it looked like it had literally just rolled off of the production line.
The pot of wax we bought only has enough polish left in it for one more use, so when that’s done, we’re going to be picking up a more general product. After all, my car is sitting there lonely and jealous of the treatment hers is getting, and buying two separate products just seems wasteful, especially if we can buy one that does the job just as well.
I’ve spent a lot of time searching out the best products, and managed to narrow it down to the top three.
First, there’s this kit from Car Guys, a professional paint detailing company. It’s a kit containing the sealant polish, applicator sponges and microfibre towels, so you’ll need to buy a cleaner as well, but it’s a good price, and it’s a great general polish, no matter what you need it for. It’s also got a 100% guarantee, so if you don’t end up liking it, then you can always send it back.
The second kit is a little more upmarket. This Rising Star kit is a complete nano car polishing product, and contains absolutely everything you’ll need to seal and polish your car, from start to finish. There’s a car cleaner, that works alongside the polish, the polish itself, a paintwork repair paste that takes out scratches and other snarls before you start, and even an interior treatment that seals and protects upholstery, including leather!
On top of that, there’s a boxful of sponges, towels and other applicators. It comes with enough for two complete cars, and one application will last for around 40 washes, or a couple of years. Whatever comes first.
These aren’t the polish we’ll be going for, though. We’re going to grab ourselves the Nanotol Car Car Combo Kit. It’s made by CeNano, an upmarket nano protective specialist company, and it’s the one that was recommended to me by my friend and colleague.
You get the primer, which functions as a cleaner to bring your car to a clean finish before you apply the polish, and the polish itself, which is a proprietary formula that’s so water resistant, it’s able to be used on boats! CeNano aren’t some fly by night Chinese knock off company either. They’ve got the full range of products, from car polishes like this, to house treatments and industrial sprays!
It’s not expensive, but not cheap enough that you’d be worried, and comes in a variety of options suited for any household with any amount of cars, and once it’s been applied your car will be bulletproof protected from rain, dirt and grime for literally years.
In my opinion, this is the single best nano polish on the market. It’s good for any car, with any paint style. The protection it offers is second to none, and it’s simple and easy to apply, with no finicky requirements. If you want the best for your car, I don’t know why you wouldn’t pick some up and start protecting what’s your today. You can buy it here.
