Has your car started to appear dull? Do you notice severe damages to the paint or your interiors? Perhaps, it is time for you to get your car detailed. However, we would suggest you to be proactive and not wait for your car to deteriorate before you get it detailed. Taking precautions and following preventative measures can prove to be instrumental in the grand scheme of things.
When detailing your car, the general rule of thumb implies that you should get your vehicle detailed frequently and on a schedule. But, the question arises—how often should you detail your car? Before we discuss the matter at hand, we believe it is essential to first realize the importance of detailing.
What is detailing exactly?
In a nutshell, detailing can be considered a rigorous process of thoroughly cleaning both the interior and exterior of a car. Therefore, if you have stains and marks in your car that you haven´t been able to remove yourself, you should get your car detailed. Some of the common detailing processes and methods include washing, interior cleaning, polishing, full paint correction, and conditioning etc. Basically, detailing helps retain and improve the overall appearance of a vehicle.
Additionally, detailing also helps eliminate any lingering odors and stench. Regular detailing can help take proper care of your car and prevent expensive issues from arising. If you want to lower the chances of your car breaking down in the future, we would recommend you to get your car cleaned thoroughly at regular intervals. We cannot stress enough on the importance of getting your car detailed on a frequent basis.
If you have time on your hands, you should wash and wax your car in between details. (>>> Check our list of longest lasting waxes here) Doing so not only helps make your car look fresh and new for extended periods, it also helps get rid of the contaminants in your car.
Getting your car detailed less frequently can be bad
Let´s state the obvious here—you might get your car detailed, but it will not remain completely spotless for long. The technicians who serviced your car may have used the most expensive and effective products to prevent the interiors and exteriors from getting dirty easily, but those products can only do so much. Eventually, and inevitably, your car will get dirty again. And, if you leave a long gap between detailing sessions, the dirt and grime can go ground deep into the finish of the car, ruining the paint job of the car and leaving your vehicle susceptible to rust. We truly believe that there is simply no purpose of getting a car detailed in the first place if you are not going to follow regular detailing schedules.
How often should you get your car detailed?
Now, without beating about the bush any further, let´s talk about how often you should get your car detailed. As we have mentioned earlier, it is not beneficial for you to get your car detailed too little. Neither is it helpful for you to get it detailed too often.
Well, in the end, it all depends on the service you get. For instance, if you take your car to a service shop that offers bare-bones levels of detailing, you should get your car detailed at least once a month. However, if your service providers offer in-depth, thorough detailing services, it is acceptable for you to get your car detailed every 3-4 months; that equates to around 4-5 times a year.
Your detailing frequency should also depend on both your car and the type of person you are. For instance, if you wash, clean, and wax your vehicle on a regular basis, your car will need a detail less often than a person who doesn´t wash, clean, and wax his/her car.
If you are looking to sell your car and hoping to a get a great price on it, it is in your best interest to have your car detailed prior to selling it. It certainly helps that detailing doesn´t burn a huge hole in your pocket. Do remember that a clean car can make a huge difference on how much someone is willing to pay for it. So, what are you waiting for? Get your car detailed already!
