We’ve all experienced that gut wrenching feeling when we’re leant forwards and caught a glass, seen it topple, almost in slow motion, towards a tabletop with our phones on them.
In this day and age, the idea of not having a smartphone is laughable. They contain our entire lives, and being in constant, direct contact with pretty much everyone we know is the norm, to the point that being without a phone for more than an hour or two can send people twitchy.
That’s why it’s even more galling when our phones get splashed or we get caught in a rainstorm. You can lose everything from something so small, simple and easily preventable.
Thing is, in a year or two this will be old news. There’s technology out there now that can waterproof and protect your phone in as little as ten minutes, and it’s simple, cheap and easy to use. It’s pretty much revolutionary, and it’s soon going to become standard on phone designs across the world.
Until this happens though, the only option is to do it ourselves. But how do we know what to look for when looking for a coating to make phones waterproof? There’s such a huge variety of products available out there suitable for pretty much any phone or tablet, it’s hard knowing which ones are the best. That’s why we’ve gathered up the best four options for when you want waterproof phone and screen product.
CeNano Display Sealant
When it comes to sealant, CeNano are always recommended. They’re kings of this world, with products that range from the small scale, like this quality screen sealant for phones and other products, all the way up to heavy duty, industrial scale sealing for boats and luxury cars, so it’s fair to say they know what they’re doing.
As a phone protector, CeNano’s display sealant is exceptional. One application lasts around 4 weeks, so one bottle will last one phone for well over 3 years. Lets be fair though, no family has just one phone. What this does mean is that this bottle will last four devices around one year, so not only will your phone be protected, you won’t have to purchase anything when everyone else in the family gets jealous of your shiny, protected phone.
Another huge advantage of sealants like this is the cleaning aspect. I don’t know about you, but I hate having fingerprints and other smudges on the screen of my phone. It makes it hard to see the screen, more difficult to for your phone to pick up your touches, and it just looks dirty. A screen sealant like this is anti-static and anti-fingerprint, so it’s going to keep your screen cleaner for longer.
Overall, this is our most recommended display sealant. It’s easy to use, it works really well, and they’re really generous with the amount you get so you can use it on multiple devices. If you’re looking to waterproof and protect your phone, this is the best choice available.
Nano Defender Liquid Screen Protector
If you don’t fancy the CeNano, Nano Defender make a comparable product. They work slightly differently. Unlike the CeNano sealant, Nano Defender’s only needs to be reapplied every few months, lasting on average around eight. But you only get 8 applications rather than 40, so it works our around the same value.
The coating and finish with this protector is exceptional. It’s as hard as tempered glass, a 9 on the hardness scale, which means you aren’t going to scratch it with anything except specialised industrial tools or maybe a diamond.
It’s good for anything with a lens, as well. Phones, tablets, cameras, even sunglasses can be treated with this. In terms of toughness, this is the number one pick.
On the one hand, this is good because it’s much easier to use and if you’re prepared you can easily use it on multiple products before it dries out.
On the other hand it’s not so good because once you’ve got it out of the packaging, you’ve got to use it there and then and there’s no potential for reapplication. But that’s fine because it lasts for two years per application, so you’re getting value for money there.
One huge advantage of this particular coating to make phones waterproof is the antibacterial properties. It’s certified by laboratory testing to kill bacteria for up to two years after application, and considering the average smartphone has ten times the bacteria of your toilet seat, that’s a massive advantage, especially if you’re going to be using this on your kids phones. A lot of us might even use our smartphones at the dinner table, and imagine all the bacteria going straight from your phone into your mouth.
This is the best wipe based coating we’ve found, with easy application and the fantastic antibacterial effect. If I was concerned about keeping my phone clean and safe to handle, this is the sealant I’d choose.
Our second choice of wipe based screen protector. If you’re looking for the best wipe based screen protector coating that makes phone waterproof, and aren’t concerned with price, this is a great choice.
It’s safe to use on anything with a screen, and protects it with the same level of 9H hardness as our other top choices. It’s antibacterial and antimicrobial, just like the Sharkproof wipes, and it’s anti-glare and anti-fingerprint, which makes using your phone a dream to use after just one application.
Overall, it’s an excellent product. It’s just damn expensive compared to everything else we’ve looked at. But if that doesn’t bother you and you only want the best with no compromises, then this is definitely worth looking at.
